Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park

High peaks and wild gorges

A path leading through wild gorges, past thundering waterfalls and across romantic alpine pastures takes you to the Ötscher summit, which lies 1,893 m above sea level.

From power plant to nature park

The true treasures of the Ötscher are the richness of its landscape, its pristine nature and its water. The latter was almost to be the region's undoing: In the 1960s, there were plans to dam the Erlauf between Toreck and Trübenbach and to build a new power plant here, in the so-called "Tormäuern". Resistance to the project finally gave rise to the Ötscher-Tormäuer Nature Park in 1970, where the interplay of gentle alpine pastures, deep gorges, bizarrely shaped rocks, waterfalls, caves, tranquil forests and magnificent vantage points delights visitors.
